Our Story
More Than Just a School was founded by two young women from minority communities in Canada, united by our shared love for education and a deep commitment to justice. Our friendship was born out of our mutual passion for learning, but it was our personal experiences, growing up in minority communities, that truly ignited our mission.
One of us is a teacher, and through years of firsthand experience, we’ve seen the barriers that have kept children in our communities from reaching their full potential. We’ve witnessed the frustration of seeing bright, capable children fall behind because the system was never built with them in mind. It became clear that we couldn’t stand by and let this continue.
So, we made a promise to each other; to be the voices these children so desperately need. To advocate for an education that isn’t just accessible, but one that is truly designed for them. An education that understands their needs, reflects their experiences, and empowers them to achieve everything they’re capable of.
We won’t stop fighting until every child in a minority community has access to the education they deserve; an education that feels like it was created for them.
Our Mission
To break down the barriers that prevent children from minority communities in Canada from accessing the education they deserve.
Our Vision
Our vision is a Canada where every child, regardless of their background, has equal access to an education that truly supports their potential. We envision a future where minority communities are not held back by systemic inequality, but are empowered to thrive through education that is inclusive, equitable, and transformative.
